BUYING GUIDE: MEANINGS OF ROSE COLOURS

Rose Colour Symbolism…
Every flower has a wonderful story to tell, but the rose stands alone in its abundant history and colour meaning.  Long before texting and twittering, as far back as biblical times, the rose has been used to convey messages in a language of nature’s passion and mystery.  A symbol of confidentiality; the Latin expression sub rosa (literally “under the rose”) means something told in secret.

Regardless of colour, their unique beauty and subtle fragrance convey a message guaranteed to elicit delight from the recipient and envy from others.  Introduce a little extra sentiment into your message of affection with the rose colours below.

RED
It’s no secret that the red rose is the ultimate symbol of romantic love and enduring passion, but it also conveys the message of respect, and the creative spirit of love.  The red rose is known universally as the lover’s flower.
WHITE
Representing humility, purity, and innocence, the white rose - often referred to as the bridal rose – is associated with young love. Also symbolizing truth and reverence, it sends a message that says, “I am worthy of you”.
YELLOW
While in Victorian times, the yellow rose symbolized jealousy, today it represents friendship, remembrance, unbridled joy, and caring. A bouquet of these sun-filled blossoms conveys warmth, gladness, and affection.
LIGHT PINK
This gentle shade connotes grace, gentleness, and poise.  Pink roses are the perfect gift for a special someone who is feminine and elegant.
DARK PINK
The deeper pink shades convey gratitude, thankfulness, and a commitment to fidelity and loyalty.
ORANGE
These warm vibrant tones symbolize enthusiasm and desire. If you’re looking for a way to express admiration and attraction – with an underlying message of excitement – then send a bouquet featuring these fiery orange blooms.
  LILAC & PURPLE
Thought to be almost mystical in nature, with symbolism tied to enchantment, desire, and even proceeding with caution, the purple shades are associated with love at first sight.
BLUE
Closely associated with lilac & purple, this more modern entry into the rose line-up symbolizes an electric attraction, the thrill and fascination of a new encounter, the impossible or the unattainable, and love at first sight.
  PEACH
Ranging from a warm pink to a rich salmon tone, the roses in this colour family send a message of friendship and partnership, sincerity and genuineness; a safe choice when affirming a great working relationship, or the closing of a new deal.
  BLACK
The velvety petals of this rose will show loss, farewell, and sorrow, or courage and resistance.
